Without Genetic Engineering - GMO Free
More and more consumers are placing great value on the quality label "GMO-free." In Germany, the German Genetic Engineering Implementation Act (EGGenTDurchfG) regulates the conditions under which plant-based and animal-based foods may be labelled "produced without genetic engineering" in sections 3a and 3b. Furthermore, the VLOG standard describes the control and certification regulations and the use of the BMEL/ VLOG seal . In Austria, the directive defining " GMO-free production " of food and its labeling regulates the procedure and prescribes accredited control bodies.
Anyone using the "GMO-free" label must guarantee the following:
The food product was not produced with GMO ingredients.
Detectable accidental or technically unavoidable admixtures of GMOs are not present in the food (practical detection limit).
Food additives, vitamins, amino acids, and flavorings produced using genetically modified microorganisms are not included.
Genetically engineered enzymes were not used in food processing.
No GMO feed was used in the feeding of the animals for the production of meat, milk or eggs (limit 0.9% if demonstrably accidental or technically unavoidable).
The inspections are carried out by our trained staff, who possess expertise and experience in agricultural practice. At the food processing facility, LACON auditors explain and verify the requirements for GMO-free conventional ingredients, as well as additives and processing aids, thus facilitating the transition to GMO-free production.
The LACON certificate “without genetic engineering”, which in Germany also includes the VLOG guideline, opens up interesting new markets.
